The state's foreground surface trail with screen brought to front by
step. One writer for every navigation that brings a screen to front; a
kept tab restored by a switch appends its screen through it too. The step's
source is kept with the visit: a screen's module can depend on how it was
reached, and every renderer reads the visit's own source.
